CLEVELAND _ The Cubs took precautionary measures Tuesday night by keeping slugger Kris Bryant out of the lineup against the Indians.
Maddon said on his weekly radio segment on WSCR-AM 670's "Bernstein and McKnight Show" that Bryant was "fine" but that he wanted to check with the slugger at Progressive Field, where the Cubs open a two-game series against the Indians.
On Sunday, Bryant was hit by a 96 mph pitch by the Rockies' German Marquez in the first inning and left the game with medical assistance.
"The sound was awful," said Maddon, who went out to stabilize Bryant. "My first thought was to support him."
Bryant has not been ruled out for Wednesday night's game.
