It’s no secret that Javy Baez, Kris Bryant, and Anthony Rizzo will become free agents at the end of the 2021 season. Over the next few months, the Cubs have some decisions to make about which of it’s superstar players will be around for the next 5-7 years.
President Jed Hoyer stated last week that he would like to sit down and discuss the possibility of having contract extension discussions with some of the Cubs’ soon-to-be free agents this spring. Rizzo said Monday that he would be open to having those conversations with the team.
Bryant has been in communication with Hoyer this offseason about his situation and would welcome a talk about staying in Chicago long term.
“I’ve always said I’m open and willing to hear whatever Jed now has to say. Take it with open arms and consider everything that is thrown my way,” Bryant said. “I think I’ve communicated that well with them. They know where I stand. They know what I think. Use whatever quotes I’ve said in the past. That still rings true today.”
