ST. LOUIS _ Kris Bryant regained his power stroke Friday night, and the rest of the Cubs offense followed his lead as they rolled to a 13-5 victory against the Cardinals at warm Busch Stadium.
Bryant snapped an 0-for-16 slump by hitting a two-run home run in the third. Bryant's homer snapped a streak of 107 at-bats without a home run _ the longest homer drought of his career.
Bryant added an RBI single and sacrifice fly, and the Cubs collected 14 hits. Albert Almora Jr., Anthony Rizzo and Addison Russell had three hits apiece.
Ian Happ and Kyle Schwarber also hit home runs as the Cubs knocked out Cardinals starter Michael Wacha. Happ's homer to start the third snapped the Cubs' 20-inning scoreless streak. Schwarber's three-run homer traveled an estimated 465 feet and sparked a six-run rally.
Bryant batted in the second spot in place of Jason Heyward, who rested as manager Joe Maddon wants to spread the playing time this weekend with temperatures hovering in the 95-degree range.
Marcell Ozuna's home run in the fourth for the Cardinals snapped Jon Lester's scoreless streak at 18 innings. Lester allowed a solo homer to Matt Carpenter in the sixth but pitched six innings for the sixth consecutive start.
