Kris Boyd winds up Rangers keeper Allan McGregor as pundit latches on to 'own goal' jibe and refuses to let go

Kris Boyd risked the wrath of an already furious Allan McGregor by repeatedly insisting the Rangers keeper had scored an own goal.

McGregor produced a stunning display to ensure the Premiership leaders weren't beaten by bottom side Hamilton Accies.

The veteran produced a string of crucial stops but was eventually being beaten by a Ross Callachan effort in the dying seconds after Brian Easton's own goal put Rangers ahead.

Callachan pounced from a tight angle after McGregor saved Bruce Anderson's header and replays suggested it was a touch from the diving shot-stopper that diverted the ball into the net.

Boyd insisted blame lies with the Rangers defence but still made sure he teased his old team-mate, who had already delivered an angry post-match interview.

"He will be really, really frustrated because he's done his job today," Boyd said on Sky Sports.

"He's done enough to make sure Rangers win that game after they get ahead.

"That mistake at the end comes from James Tavernier not putting pressure on the ball, able to shape the ball down the line to get runners beyond and once it comes in the box you've got to pick up the man.

"They (Rangers) actually get a second chance (to clear). Bruce Anderson wins the first header, then you've got another chance to react and clear it.

"Borna Barisic is sleeping and Callachan is able to get it back across goal and it hits off McGregor for an own goal!"

Around 10 minutes later, discussion returned to the equaliser and Boyd was in no mood to soften his stance on whose name should be going on the scoresheet.

A reverse angle appeared to show that, without a touch from McGregor, Callachan's effort was going to run square across goal.

On the prospect the Accies midfielder would still be claiming the goal, Boyd said: "Good luck to him on that one! That (replay) actually helped me because it looked closer from the other angle, it was going absolutely nowhere near the goal!"
