Andy Halliday has wasted no time in throwing down the gauntlet to St Mirren ahead of their Premier Sports Cup semi-final clash with Motherwell at Hampden in November.
With the draw made just last week, the sides will meet in one of the semis at the national stadium on November 1, with Celtic facing Rangers in the other a day later.
Halliday, who plays for Motherwell, was speaking about the situation when he appeared on punditry duty for Rangers' win over Livingston on Sky Sports yesterday.
The midfielder lavished praise on the Buddies, before insisting they'll not reach the final of the competition.
🏆 “The only thing missing for [St Mirren] is that cup run” 👀 “They’ve managed to get to the semi-finals, but unfortunately that’s the furthest they’re going to get!” 🤣 “Clip that up!” Motherwell’s Andy Halliday has a strong message for the Paisley side! ⤵️ pic.twitter.com/cQbrMn82W4

“Three top sixes in three seasons is an incredible achievement for Stephen Robinson and his side," the 33-year-old said. “And probably the only thing that’s missing for them is that cup run.
“They’ve managed to get to the semi-final but unfortunately that’s the furthest they’re going to get.”
After a momentary pause, this prompted Boydy to chip in: “Better clip that up!”
Fellow pundit James McFadden added: "Oh, that’s fighting talk!"
Both Motherwell and St Mirren earned victories in the Scottish Premiership at the weekend too.
The former scored twice in stoppage time to pile on further pressure on Aberdeen and Jimmy Thelin. Meanwhile, the latter dispatched Dundee on home soil.
