Kris Boyd slaughters Allan McGregor for 'absolutely mental' red card

Kris Boyd has blasted his former Rangers team-mate Allan McGregor after the goalkeeper was red carded in the final minute of his side's win over Hibs for an incredible kick out at Marc McNulty.

The veteran keeper was shown a straight red card by referee Bobby Madden after following through in a clearance and stamping on McNulty's back.

McGregor will now be banned for Sunday's final derby meeting of the season with Celtic , although Rangers are likely to appeal the decision to free the 36-year-old up for the match.

Boyd described the incident as "absolutely mental".

Speaking after the final whistle, the Kilmarnock striker told Sky Sports: "It's absolutely mental. I don't know what he is thinking. It's mental to even contemplate kicking out at someone.

"You can't sit here and defend him. We have seen him have a couple of kick outs before.

"I'm lost for words.

"He is 36 now and not a silly little boy. It's stupid.

"Rangers want to go and beat Celtic next week but now it looks like he'll be suspended. It's a crazy decision once again from him. He is a boy who lives on the edge and again it's a moment of madness."

Rangers were forced to field Ross McCrorie in goals for the closing stages after Gerrard had made all three of his substitutions.

McGregor was suspended retrospectively for two matches in February after kicking out at Aberdeen's Lewis Ferguson at Pittodrie.

He also came in for criticism after catching Celtic's Kris Ajer in the first derby of the season in September.
