Kris Boyd shares his Alfredo Morelos Rangers fear as he salutes Celtic's transfer touch

Rangers hero Kris Boyd reckons his former team would face a serious challenge in replacing their "best player" Alfredo Morelos - if he departs this summer.

Record Sport revealed Lille are readying a £17m move for the Colombia international with West Brom also keeping close tabs on the Ibrox talisman.

Boyd admits the 24-year-old leaving Rangers would be a blow and reckons any exit is compounded by Celtic's winning transfer formula.

The Premiership champions have perfected the art of selling their best players for big money over the past decade with Kieran Tierney, Virgil van Dijk and Moussa Dembele all exiting in money-spinning deals.

And Boyd concedes the Hoops' transfer touch could once again prove its worth as they eye a 10th consecutive title.

Speaking on Sky Sports' Premiership podcast, he said:  “When you look at Celtic, they could sell the likes of Olivier Ntcham who’s been a bit part player over the last while.

“They could sell him and probably get in the region of £10million.

“I think Rangers are at the stage where if they sell Alfredo Morelos, who is arguably been their best player, they’re losing their top talent.

“Celtic have got a squad where they could probably sell one or two and generate massive sums of money without having to sell their stars.”

Meanwhile, Boyd has urged Rangers to come flying out the traps as they look to show their title credentials in a season for the ages.

Steven Gerrard's side travel to Pittodrie for a showdown with rivals Aberdeen and the 36-year-old expects a statement from the Ibrox side.

He added: "A lot of people will turn around and say: 'What does Steven Gerrard have to do?' Well, start the season in the exact same way they started last season.

"When you look back at last season, the gap was 13 points when the season was brought to a halt. With the same players and the same management staff, that's very difficult to turn around because you are set in your ways."
