Kris Boyd sets Rangers challenge as he tips 'X Factor' Roofe to outdo Morelos

Kris Boyd believes Kemar Roofe can be become Rangers' 'X Factor' as he tips him to become more of an important player for the club than Alfredo Morelos.

Rangers started their Scottish Premiership with a 3-0 win against Livingston as they cruised to victory on the opening day of the season.

Goals from Ianis Hagi, Scott Wright and Roofe was enough for Rangers, in a match where Jon McLaughlin's goal was rarely threatened.

Rangers were without Morelos for the match as Fashion Sakala started in the game. He was quiet throughout and Roofe came off the bench for the champions.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: "It could be a big season for Kemar Roofe. It’s been a bit stop start; he’s had injury problems and the suspension in Europe.

"“But if he can get a proper run in terms of this pre-season that’s coming to an end and can start, he is that x-factor in the central position for Rangers.

“Alfredo Morelos has been really good, but I think Kemar Roofe can take that up a level.

"We saw glimpses last season that he’s a top player. Rangers have invested a lot of money in him and I’m sure he’ll come good.

“The pre-season thing was a big thing for me. If he’s got a decent one under his belt - he’s not had it for a few years now - and stay away from injuries, he can be a top player.”

Roofe joined Rangers from Anderlecht in 2020, after one season in Belgium's top flight.

Last campaign he scored 18 goals in all competitions and provided three assists to his teammates.

It is now up to Roofe to take the chances presented to him with Morelos missing from the first team squad, and he will be looking to start for the Gers against Malmo.
