Kris Boyd's Rangers diet revealed as Steven Naismith shares striker's hilarious 'two croissants' ploy

Whatever you think of Kris Boyd, he certainly knew where the back of the net was.

The striker scored 300 career goals, hitting over 100 for both Rangers and Kilmarnock.

Fantastic achievements, but the big man would be the first to admit that he wasn't always the most finely-tuned athlete throughout his career.

And Steven Naismith has lifted the lid on his former Ibrox team-mate's morning routine as the pair carpooled from Ayrshire to Auchenhowie.

Speaking on the Lockdown Tactics the Hearts captain revealed Boyd would regularly have two breakfasts before a Rangers training session.

Naismith said: "Stopping for a coffee at Starbucks and Boydy bounces back out with two ham and cheese croissants for him before training.

"Honest to God, gone in about two seconds. One bite.

"He'd go in and have a full breakfast when we got to training!"

Boyd confirmed: "I used to say to him: 'do you want anything?'.

"He would always say: 'no, I'll get my breakfast when I get in'.

"I would go and order two croissants and take them back to the car, hoping that he was going to say 'I don't want it' so I could just have two to myself!"

It's fair to say Walter Smith wouldn't have been too impressed with that kind of athletic preparation, and Boyd took care to ensure his manager never found out.

Naismith laughed: "No word of a lie, he'd pull up to the gates at the training ground, and as we're going in Boydy's wiping all the crumbs off him!"
