Kris Boyd rings Rangers alarm bells over one key position as he tells Michael Beale to make up his mind

Kris Boyd has told Rangers boss Michael Beale to pick a goalkeeper and stick with him.

Jon McLaughlin was handed the gloves as the Light Blues welcomed Ross County to Ibrox on Saturday, after Allan McGregor's spell between the sticks for the previous games against Hearts and St Johnstone. McLaughlin looked uncomfortable throughout despite Rangers coming through 2-1 winners. The 35-year-old had particular difficulty with set pieces and cross balls, which has left Boyd scratching his head at Beale's inability to stick with a number one.

He told Sky Sports: "Get one and put them in goals. If you want Jon McLaughlin to be your number one then put Jon McLaughlin in goals. If you want Allan McGregor to be your number one put him in and leave him in."

And James McFadden was quick to jump in to criticise McLaughlin's lack of decision-making after the Scotland stopper got nowhere near the delivery that led to Jordan White's equaliser.

He added: "The biggest thing for a goalie is decision-making. So it's not whether you can come for cross balls or not, if you make a decision to come for a ball you're never getting, it doesn't matter how good you are at getting them you need to make the right decision."

And on the topic of Rangers, Boyd was quick to throw in praise for Bayern Munich loanee Malik Tillman, who played an influential role as an 11th minute replacement for the injured John Lundstram during the Ibrox clash.

The former striker turned pundit added: "One thing I will say though and I know he was a substitute yesterday, Malik Tillman has had a big impact on Rangers at this moment in time. He's getting himself in the position to score goals as well and create. He's looking like the player we first saw the first few weeks of the season. I think since Michael Beale's came in, playing in that area, he's definitely upped his game that's for sure."
