Kris Boyd reveals the one thing Steve Clarke will not tolerate as Scotland boss

Kris Boyd has a fired a warning to Scotland stars that life is going to get a whole lot tougher under new boss Steve Clarke.

The former Kilmarnock boss was confirmed by the SFA on a three-year deal on Monday as the 55-year-old targets being the man to end a 22-year wait to reach a major tournament.

Boyd worked with Clarke at Rugby Park in the past two seasons and is convinced the national team have finally got the right man in the dugout.

And the ex-Rangers forward insists any player who thinks calling off for their country won't go unpunished is in for a rude awakening.

Boyd told Sky Sports: “It is a great appointment for Scotland and it is a real blow for us at Kilmarnock.

"He will be the man to take Scotland back, definitely, I've been able to see the way he works.

"There will be no call-offs, that won't happen because you won't be back.

The 7 Scotland players that show Steve Clarke’s Euro 2020 prediction can come true

"There's been a lot of times when players have it too easy at international level and we've now got a manager in place who is strong and won't take any rubbish.

"If you don't turn up then you won't be at the next gathering.

"He knows what he wants and he will achieve it."

Boyd also played down concerns over whether or not Clarke has the box-office factor to get players onside.

The 36-year-old insists all members of the squad  will soon realise the manager's qualities when they work with him.

He added: "He will already have everyone onside because you cannot help but stand up and take notice of the job he's done with Kilmarnock.

"I think a lot of the players will be intrigued to see what he does.

Steve Clarke IS Scotland’s next manager as Kilmarnock boss wins the race

"In terms of organisation, sometimes it's better keeping things simple. Every single person inside the Kilmarnock dressing room knew their job and it will be the exact same at the national level.

"Everything the manager does is geared towards to each game."
