Kris Boyd pinpoints Rangers' winter break pressure point as retired hero busts a gut to hit marathon finish line

Kris Boyd dragged himself around Rugby Park in a punishing charity run and reminded his beloved Rangers that they face a marathon and not a sprint to stop Celtic 's title charge.

The retired goal-grabber was challenged by his Lockdown Tactics podcast co-host, Robert Snodgrass, to run 10k for charity but Boyd decided he'd try something a bit more testing and extended the challenge to 13 miles.

He has raised more than £3000 for his Mental Health charity and the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation after running from Ayr United's Somerset Park to Kilmarnock 's Rugby Park.

Boyd said: "That was as hard as any pre-season during my career!

"That was a tough shift. It will take me a few days for the body to recover.

And Boyd reckons Rangers have a tough shift of their own ahead to ensure their title fight lasts for a whole season instead of petering out at the half way stage.

He told Sky Sports: " Rangers came back from the winter break and struggled so there is something that needs to be sorted there.

"I'm sure Steven Gerrard and his staff will be doing their best to ensure that is not the case.

"At Rangers the message will be exactly the same as it was at the start of last pre-season because up until the break you could have no complaints about Rangers.

"They were excellent in Europe, very unlucky in the Betfred Cup final and then going to Parkhead and winning.

"So there were a lot of positives to take from the first part of the season with Rangers but it's two years in a row they have come back from that winter break and it has not happened.

"And Celtic go from strength to strength in that second part of the season.

"So it's important Rangers get in a few players and put the pressure on Celtic early doors."
