Kris Boyd knew Steve Clarke's Scotland evolution was coming as Denmark man slaughtered with cheeky sprint quip

Former Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd has seen Steve Clarke's methods in action.

And he knew the evolution of his Scotland team from stuffy to sensational was always coming.

The national side turned in their best performance of Clarke's tenure since his summer 2019 appointment in a 2-0 win over Denmark.

John Souttar's header and a clinical Che Adams sucker punch minutes from time provided the 2-0 win a gutsy and glorious performance merited against the Euro 2020 semi-finalists.

And it has us seeded for the March play-offs to make the 2022 World Cup.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Boyd said: "When you look at the defensive base, that gives you the structure to move forward and win games of football.

"I worked with him at Kilmarnock and yes, sometimes it can be tiring to watch.

"But when you start winning, you know you want to come and watch it.

"That's where Steve Clarke is at. This team has evolved. This is not a defensive team any more.

Che Adams celebrates after scoring to make it 2-0 Scotland during a FIFA World Cup Qualifier between Scotland and Denmark at Hampden Park (SNS Group)

"It might be set up defensively but that lets you get bodies forward.

"The amount of players going down with cramp, that's a willingness to put everything on the line for your country.

"There's a good, honest bunch of boys there, Steve Clarke has said it numerous times and he's probably been trying to get people to believe it.

"But people are now starting to see exactly what Steve Clarke is doing with this national team — and we can all say we're proud to be Scottish again."

Striker Adams left the Danes for dead when he raced through on the counter four minutes from time and Boyd joked even he could have outpaced centre-back Jannik Vestergaard.

Colleague James McFadden was unsure if he meant in his Rangers goalscoring pomp or his suited up present day self as the pair plus host Eilidh Barbour were left in a fit of giggles.

Boyd asked Faddy: "Tell the truth here, do you think I would have beaten Vestergaard in a race there?"

"Easy," came the reply.

"Now! You'd beat him now!"
