Kris Boyd in Rangers penalty confession but Neil McCann offers his own frank observation

Pundit Kris Boyd has conceded Hearts should have earned a penalty against Rangers as he reinforced his call for quick-fire introduction of VAR in Scotland.

Alfredo Morelos and Joe Aribo got the goals that saw off Robbie Neilson's side at Tynecastle with Josh Ginnelly sent off in the capital.

But Hearts had a penalty as Gary Mackay-Steven cross brushed Connor Goldson's hand in the box.

Former Ibrox striker Boyd insists the spot-kick would have been given in the English Premier League if referee Nick Walsh had support from video technology.

He also pointed to Kyogo's winner against Hearts at Celtic Park as part of his argument which Boyd criticised heavily at the time as he insisted the striker was offside.

Scottish Premiership clubs are to make a final decision on the introduction of VAR next year.

Boyd told Sky Sports: "It is a handball, there is no doubt about it.

"I'll say it again, the quicker that VAR is in Scottish football the better. Hearts will feel aggrieved with this.

"Yes, they play it on and it helps Liam Boyce get his shot away but there is no doubt about it, if that is in England you are going back and giving a penalty kick.

"It's a penalty, there is no doubt about it.

'If you go back to last week because Celtic were playing people were going on about me saying it was offside. It was offside, and it was the wrong decision.

"It's the exact same thing there with Rangers, it's the wrong decision. It's a penalty kick.

"Robbie Neilson and Hearts will feel aggrieved, but you can't make the decision without the assistance of VAR."

The cross would eventually fall to the feet of Liam Boyce and fellow pundit Neil McCann was quick to brush aside the penalty chat.

The former Rangers star reckons the Northern Ireland striker should have scored despite the contact from Goldson.

McCann stated: "I agree, but Boyce should still score.

"I'm not being hard on Liam Boyce, but I just think Boyce scores and it suddenly puts Rangers on the back foot.

"It was a huge moment for Rangers.

"I think with VAR they point to the penalty spot, but Boyce has missed a great chance."
