Kris Boyd echoes Rangers legend Ally McCoist's 'who are they?' demand as he questions referee panel

Kris Boyd insists the SFA's disciplinary system needs credibility as he raised questions over the panel issuing retrospective bans.

Rangers stars Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe plus Celtic striker Albian Ajeti have been charged over incidents initially dealt with by the referee.

Morelos is serving a three game ban for stamping on Ryan Porteous, Celtic are appealing Ajeti's diving suspension and Roofe has been pulled up for a crunching tackle on Murray Davidson.

The citations are issued by a three former referees and Boyd, speaking on Sky Sports, exclaimed: "Who is this panel?"

His call for clarity echoed former Rangers boss Ally McCoist's "who are these people?" outburst after anonymous legal experts sanctioned a transfer ban on the Ibrox club in 2012.

Boyd reckons Scottish football bosses must get serious about introducing VAR, insisting it's been implemented in comparable nations.

"Consistency but also, for me, credibility," he said.

"If the league is going to be taken seriously, you look at other countries - Malta, Sweden, Slovenia - these countries have got VAR as well.

"I'm not saying we go the all singing, all dancing route of the English Premier League, we don't need to.

"We've got the facilities here where you could easily get a referee to come over (to a screen).

"The last thing you want is games being re-refereed. You've got to respect the referees for the decisions that they've made.

"We need to be careful here.

"There's been a big turn, for me, since the turn of the year in scrutiny on the referees and the decisions.

"Who's actually making the decisions, by the way? There's no compliance officer, now there's a panel.

"Who is this panel?"
