Kris Boyd delivers his Celtic and Rangers title verdict and the one thing that could prove the difference

Kris Boyd believes the Scottish Premiership trophy will be heading to the side who gains the upper hand in the Old Firm derbies.

The former Kilmarnock and Rangers striker accepts Celtic and his old club have already shipped points to other top-flight sides.

But Boyd remains convinced it’s the head-to-heads between the Glasgow giants that will prove pivotal.

And he believes Celtic’s title hopes will smash into the rocks if Odsonne Edouard suffers an injury.

Boyd told Sky Sports: "The four Old Firm games will separate them. Celtic had the advantage by picking up the three points from the last one but that’s gone because they are level (on points) at the top now.

"I didn’t think they would drop many points against the other teams but recently they have to Livingston and Hibs while Rangers drew at Hearts as well.

"But I still think the four Old Firm games will decide where the title goes.

"It makes it interesting between now and the end of the season. There’s not much between the two teams this season. Celtic maybe have a bit more strength in depth in the midfield areas but for me if Odsonne Edouard is to pick up an injury then Celtic are in big bother."

Celtic have only one fit striker in Edouard after Neil Lennon admitted Vakoun Bayo faces knee surgery and up to six weeks out. Leigh Griffiths, though, is in line to return to training this week.
