Kris Boyd claims Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is more hassle than he's worth

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd believes Alfredo Morelos is more hassle than he's worth to manager Steven Gerrard .

The Colombian striker has been subject to a number of disciplinary issues over the last four months, including being late back from his homeland for Rangers ' Scottish Cup tie against Hearts.

And Boyd states that when the chips are down, Morelos can't keep the head when he's needed most.

He told The Debate on Sky: "There was a lot ignored up until the break and now when you start to lose games everything starts to come out and you hear the stories.

"When you look at the situation around the Scottish Cup game against Hearts when he was left out of the squad altogether (for returning home from Colombia late) - that's not the first time that has happened.

"He's your best goalscorer so you wouldn't leave him out. That tells me this isn't the first time this has happened.

"It would be two or three times this has happened."

Questioned if Morelos has become more hassle than he is worth, Boyd answers in the affirmative.

He said: "At this moment in time yes. I've said it. You can't keep protecting someone that has had so many red cards.

"The annoying thing he is he went for a long period at the start of the season without even getting booked.

"He looked as if he had turned the corner then all of a sudden the red cards started again.

"To be a top player you need to have it all unless you are exceptional. All the big clubs that were looking at Morelos will be looking into exactly what's going on and everything behind the scenes.

"There's more to being a footballer now than just on the pitch, there's everything off it as well. There's no hiding place."
