Kris Boyd claims Rangers manager list 'bigger than my shopping bill' as he predicts boss in place by next week

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd believes sporting director Ross Wilson will not have a shortage of candidates wanting to become the next Ibrox boss.

The Premiership champions have been left reeling after the shock departure of Steven Gerrard to become Aston Villa 's new head coach.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is the red-hot favourite but others have been suggested alongside the former Ibrox ace and ex-Feyenoord boss.

Record Sport exclusively revealed Rino Gattuso is interested and Derek McInnes has had a few mentions. Gerrard led Rangers to the club's 55th title last season and ended Celtic 's 10-in-a-row bid.

Boyd believes that whoever replaces the new Villa boss will have a tough task, but Wilson will have a list bigger than the former striker's food bill.

" Rangers fans will be disappointed that he's gone," said Boyd on Sky Sports. "From where it was to where he's left it, Rangers are night and day.

"Every manager probably wants to manage in the Premier League and Gerrard is no different. As a manager, you have to strive to get better.

"Adding the Premiership last year has added pressure - you have to go and retain that now. For a manager coming in, it's an attractive position.

"The infrastructure is totally different and Ross Wilson has a big job now. But that's why you want in those roles. I'm sure he will have a list bigger than my shopping bill! He will decide who is right.

"You would expect Rangers to have somebody in charge for next week."
