Kris Boyd calls for Rangers spending spree as Celtic will 'throw money' at Eddie Howe

The Rangers hierarchy will need to go on something of a spending spree this summer in order to keep Celtic and Eddie Howe at bay, according to Kris Boyd.

Steven Gerrard's Gers were awarded the Premiership trophy yesterday after the Ibrox side finished the entire league season without losing a solitary match, and managed to finish a whopping 25 points ahead of their Glasgow rivals.

However, Boyd reckons Celtic will dig deep this summer in an attempt to address the situation, and he's called on his former side to spend a few quid of their own during the forthcoming transfer window.

Speaking as a pundit on Sky Sports earlier today, Boyd explained: "You look at it and you say can you go and win domestic cups, can you keep the league title at Ibrox next season.

“In terms of Europa (League) it’s been excellent but everyone knows the Champions League is a step up. If Rangers can get into that the money they get will allow them to strengthen even more.

“The players have been fantastic this season but there will be areas Steven will be looking to strengthen, and that’s just part of the parcel, but big clubs can’t stand still. They will need to keep improving.

“That will be the message when Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson sit down with the board; we need to keep striving to get better.

“Listen, Celtic will spend money with the reports of Eddie Howe coming in. Celtic will have to throw a lot of money at this to try and turn this around.

“Rangers are in a good position, they have players they can sell, but the one you can’t afford to sell is Ryan Kent. He has been excellent.

“If they can make that bit of progress and reach the Champions League it would be a massive, massive stride.”
