Kris Boyd and Andy Walker's Hibs vs Rangers 'red card' clash in full as pundits war over flashpoint

Sky pundits Andy Walker and Kris Boyd clashed in a hotly-debated back and fourth over a potential red card incident involving Paul Hanlon for his meaty challenge on Ianis Hagi.

The Romanian playmaker took a sore one to the face as the pair clashed in midfield with the Hibs defender raising his arm to block a run.

Hagi was poleaxed as the powerful stopper's elbow caught the Rangers star flush on the jaw.

And while referee Don Robertson booked Hanlon for his troubles it was a moment that incensed former Rangers star Boyd who was adamant a red card offence had been commited.

He said "This one's a red for me."

Walker, replied in the negative as quick as a flash: "No it's a yellow"

Boyd: "His hands are up. You can see there, Hagi is away from him and bang.

"Take that right in the face. That one's a red card all day long."

Walker: "It's reckless Boydy and reckless is a yellow. Again, you have to highlight the approach Hibs have taken here, to be nasty, aggressive and controlled."

The half-time exchange didn't include co-commentator Ally McCoist but when the match ended, host Eilidh Barbour probed the Ibrox legend for his verdict.

He said: "I take Boydy's point but I just think it's a yellow, I really do.

"I genuinely don't think there is any intent to elbow him in the face but if he does get sent off I don't think he has an awful lot of real complaint but I think the referee probably called it right.

"He's come across and tried to use his body, his hand is high...

Boyd: "That's my point. He's come across and his hand is up. He actually lifts it up a little bit as well. He lifts it. You can see it. That for me is a red card.

Walker: "I agree with Ally, there's not aggressive force with an elbow. Sometimes you get hurt in a game and you just get up and get on with it. It's a yellow."

Host Elidh Barbour intervened suggesting that she was glad the issue had finaly been "cleared up".

McCoist: "They probably haven't!'

A laughing Boyd joked:"I can't wait for the car park after this!

While niether of his punditry colleagues were persuaded, Boyd did manage to get another high-profile former football to agree when Steven Gerrard was asked about the incident after the game.

He said: "I think Kris has got a point."
