Kris Ajer nears Celtic £13.5m transfer exit as defender completes medical with Midtjylland's sister club Brentford

Kristoffer Ajer is on the verge of completing a move Midtjylland's sister club Brentford just hours before Celtic face the Danes in a massive Champions League showdown at Parkhead.

The Premier League new boys have agreed a fee of £13.5m for the Norway international and it's understood he will be officially unveiled by the Bees imminently.

Brentford are looking to make a splash following their promotion to the top flight and have already secured midfielder Frank Onyeka from Midtjylland in an £8.5m deal - the third transfer between the sister clubs.

And they are now closing in on the 23-year-old as their next marquee summer signing as Thomas Frank looks to add extra quality to a side who gained promotion through the Championship playoffs.

Celtic will sign Carl Starfelt as Ajer's replacement with a £4.5m deal for the Rubin Kazan stopper awaiting international clearance before he can head to Parkhead.

The Norwegian has been a smash-hit in Glasgow, earning 170 appearances in green and white after making his breakthrough under Brendan Rodgers.

Ajer also has 23 caps for his country and will now test his skills against some of the finest attacking players on the planet in the Premier League.
