Kris Ajer confirms Celtic departure will happen this summer as he reveals desired level

Kris Ajer has confirmed publicly for the first time that he wants to leave Celtic this summer.

The centre back is entering the final year of his deal and today admitted heading for the exit would be the best outcome for both parties.

And the Norwegian revealed he has his sights set on one of Europe’s top five leagues after learning his trade in the Scottish Premiership.

Ajer has been heavily linked with Newcastle United while Norwich City are expected to be the first to make a bid for the Norway international, who is currently with his national squad.

AC Milan have also been credited with an interest, but it looks more likely the former Start youngster will be heading to the English Premier League.

Ajer says nothing has been agreed yet, but acknowledged that his time at Celtic Park is almost definitely up.

He said: "There are many rumours, and right now there are only rumours. I have one year left on my contract and I'm sticking to it. It is clear that something will happen this summer.

"In terms of club I do not want to go into anything. We'll get to that later, but it's a top 5 league I aim for.

"You have to be careful with what you say to the media.

"For those outside, it is difficult to understand how important football is in Glasgow. There could have been 120,000 spectators if only the stadium had been expanded.

"I have gained good experience after playing almost 180 games for a top club like Celtic. I have experienced how football can be on good and bad days. So it has been a very good experience."
