Kris Ajer Celtic transfer latest as Milan lay out 'targeted' summer strategy

Milan have laid out their summer transfer strategy, amid links to Kris Ajer.

The Celtic centre-back is believed to be a target for the Serie A giants, who are looking for reinforcements in defence.

The Rossoneri have signed Simon Kjaer from Sevilla after an initial loan spell last season, but are looking for a more long-term partner for captain Alessio Romagnoli.

Ajer has been linked with a switch to San Siro, with Fiorentina's Nikola Milenkovic also believed to be on the shortlist.

At a press conference on Tuesday Milan laid out their plans for the transfer market, with CEO Ivan Gazidis, technical director Paolo Maldini and sporting director Frederic Massara all in attendance.

Quizzed on transfer plans Maldini explained: "Last year we laid the foundations for the idea of a Milan of the future.

“Between the summer and January nine players arrived. This year we’ll make some targeted moves.

“Maybe we won’t be able to make moves like we’ve done in the past, I don’t want to deceive the fans, but we’ll be alert to any opportunities the market presents.

“We only need to act in positions where we need to improve and where we can bring in superior players. There may be a few tweaks but all we have to do is improve those areas in which we think there are flaws."

Former Arsenal chief executive Gazidis was also present.

And while he wouldn't be drawn on specific targets, he did intimate that moves could be made late in the window.

Gazidis said: "We have a young team that is growing in a very positive way.

"An important part of our strategy is continuity and, as we've said, it's not just about young players. It takes a mix of young and experienced players.

“We want to keep improving the squad.

“I think it’s going to be an unusual window and we need to make the right additions. I have a feeling there will be moves toward the end of the window and we’ll be ready to seize the right opportunities.”
