Kris Ajer and the massive Milan transfer budget that could see Celtic rake in millions

Celtic fans probably expected to spend this summer worrying about the future of Odsonne Edouard, but it's at the other end of the pitch things look more uncertain.

Since breaking into the first team in 2017 Kris Ajer has gone from strength to strength, and it's the Norwegian who's being linked with a move away.

The 22-year-old switched agent in June, always a warning sign that a player might be thinking about a move elsewhere.

Most heavily linked with the Celtic star are Italian giants Milan, and if they firm up their interest San Siro would certainly represent an enticing destination.

The Hoops would be sure to play hardball, and it appears they could be in line for a transfer windfall if the Rossoneri come calling.

Milan are set to appoint Ralf Rangnick as a British-style manager responsible for both transfers and coaching the team.

And Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the German will be given a bumper signing budget for his first summer window.

The newspaper expects Rangnick to be given €75million (£68million) to spend, plus half of whatever the club can recoup by selling players.

High on the list of priorities will be the centre of defence, and Ajer would fit with the club's transfer strategy.

Milan were taken over by hedge fund Elliott Management in 2018 and have since looked to sign young players who can be sold for a profit at a later date.

The likes of Franck Kessie, Rafael Leao, Theo Hernandez and Ismael Bennacer arrived last summer and were all aged 22 or younger.

Ajer doesn't turn 23 until April but already has over 200 professional games under his belt, as well as experience at European and international level.

The Serie A giants could therefore be tempted to spend a chunk of that big summer budget on the centre-back as a long-term partner for captain Alessio Romagnoli.
