Kraftwerk, Underworld and Nile Rodgers and CHIC set for Playground Festival 2021

German electro pioneers Kraftwerk have been announced as one of the headliners for Playground Festival 2021.

The group will bring their acclaimed 3-D live show to Rouken Glen Park on the outskirts of Glasgow for the festival, which will also see headline performances by Underworld and Nile Rodgers and CHIC.

With this year's festival rescheduled due to the coronavirus, Playground Festival 2021 will take place over three days and nights at the Giffnock park from Friday, July 30 to Sunday, August 1.

Ralf Hütter of Kraftwerk said: “Kraftwerk are bringing our 3-D multimedia show to Glasgow for Playground Festival next summer on a world class line-up across the weekend.

“Kraftwerk and our robots will be headlining Saturday July 31. We’re charging our battery / now we’re full of energy. We’re functioning automatik / and we are dancing mekanik. We are the robots.”

And Nile Rodgers said: "I'm delighted to be returning to Glasgow for Playground 21 and seeing our amazing fans there again next summer – the city is always a very special place for us to play."

Underworld will headline the Friday night of the festival, with Kraftwerk presenting their multi-media show combining digital surround sound with breathtaking 3D animations and robotics on Saturday night, before adopted Glaswegians Nile Rodgers and CHIC bring the curtain down on Sunday night.

Festival spokesperson Ashleigh Elliott said: “We are thrilled to bring Playground 21 to Rouken Glen Park with what we believe is one of the most exciting line-ups ever seen in Scotland. We are confident it will deliver a truly memorable weekend.

“Where possible we secured the acts who were scheduled to play in summer 2020 but sadly some of them couldn’t make it due to existing commitments.

“Underworld are one of the biggest names in world electronic music and we are thrilled to have them - they are the perfect end to day one and we know our crowd will love them.

“Kraftwerk can be described in the exact same way, their hypnotic synthesiser melodies truly shaped the development of dance music around the world.

“Their 3D show will be unlike anything our city has ever seen – we have some VERY exciting plans to make it even more special.

“Our original headliners Underworld on Friday will perform as planned and by adding Kraftwerk, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, we are confident we have an incredible mix of music and performers which will appeal to our Playground family.

“We all need something to smile about this year and I hope the return of our Playground can bring hope and happiness to music fans across Scotland. Welcome to our Playground – it’s great to have you all coming back.”

Stay tuned folks, as more acts for next year's festival will be confirmed as part of a wave two announcement next week.

Tickets go on sale on Thursday, November 26 from  www.playgroundfestival.co.uk  priced £159.00 for a three-day weekend ticket and £59.00 for individual day tickets.
