KPMG in Scotland ups its new start intake by 14%

The number of apprentices and graduates joining KPMG in Scotland has risen to 80 this year including specialists in audit, tax, consulting and digital.

That is an increase of more than 14% on last year's intake of 70 places awarded at the firm’s bases in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

Across the UK, the number of new KPMG apprentices and graduates rose from 1,200 to 1,380.

It follows a drive by the firm to recruit more people straight from school, rather than through the more traditional college or university route. It has been ranked as one of the UK’s top employers in the Social Mobility Index.

Catherine Burnet, senior partner at KPMG in Scotland, said: “Our increased investment in apprentices and graduate trainees will help to ensure that KPMG is equipped with the next generation of business leaders and experts, to super-serve our clients.

"With competition continuously growing to attract the right talent, we’re proud of the fact that we’re not only bringing more new recruits to our offices throughout Scotland, but that we’re confident we’re getting the highest calibre in the sector.

"By broadening our criteria to include a stronger mix of school leavers and graduates, we’ve changed the dynamic of the talent entering KPMG, driving up social mobility, and building a more robust, industry-focused business.”
