KOZHIKODE: A woman police inspector attached with Chemmangad police (Kozhikode city) has started investigation into the allegations raised by members of Haritha, the women’s wing of Muslim Students Federation against MSF leaders for making sexually-coloured remarks.
The case was assigned to inspector Anita Kumari by Kozhikode police chief considering the sensitive nature of the issue.
The case was registered by Vellayil police on Tuesday against MSF leaders under IPC Sections 354 (1) (iv) (making sexually coloured remarks) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).
Earlier, 10 leaders of Haritha had submitted a petition to the women’s commission, which was forwarded to the Kozhikode police chief.
In their complaint, Haritha leaders said PK Navas, during the MSF state committee meeting in Kozhikode on June 22, had asked their representatives to explain their opinion about an organizational matter with a remark, ‘even a prostitute would have a justification, you tell that’.
They had said that MSF Malappuram district secretary V Abdul Wahab had used derogatory words to describe them while talking over the phone.
The leaders had also alleged attempts to portray its members with sexual overtones, to break them down mentally and personally besides levelling false charges.
On Tuesday, IUML had frozen the state committee of Haritha for making public its allegations against MSF leaders.
The party had termed the action of Haritha leaders as a serious act of indiscipline and did not take strong action against the men, against whom the case was filed.
