Leno returns, Koscielny dropped, Aubameyang and Ozil start - predicted Arsenal XI vs Burnley

After victory in Valencia on Thursday night Arsenal's domestic season will end in after the Lord Mayor's show fashion with a final trip to Burnley to end a league campaign that fell off the tracks in the last fortnight.

There is still something on the line for Arsenal as they travel to Burnley this afternoon, with victory at Turf Moor guaranteeing the Gunners fifth place, though it would take an eight goal swing against Tottenham for the Gunners to leapfrog them on the final day and reach the final Champions League qualification spot.

Even in a week as implausible as this one has been that appears to be highly unlikely.

Finishing fifth would, however, have its upsides.

Were Watford to beat Manchester City in the FA Cup Final in a week's time then whichever side ends the Premier League season in sixth would be obliged to play in the Europa League second qualifying round on July 25, severely disrupting Unai Emery's pre-season plans.

As such it is unlikely the Arsenal head coach will field a line-up that leans too heavily on youngsters, though several players may well be rested. Chief among those is likely to be Laurent Koscielny, whose troublesome Achilles make it tough for him to complete three games in a week.

"We arrived home at 6am and today we cancelled training because it's important to rest," Emery said. "Tomorrow we are going to prepare for Sunday's match but I am going to decide with the players who are hungry and in good physical condition to play this match."

Both Sead Kolasinac and Ainsley Maitland-Niles picked up knocks in Thursday's 4-2 win in Valencia but are expected to recover in time, allowing Emery to continue with a three man defence that could be required against Burnley's powerful front two of Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood.

Usually a three man defence means Emery deploying both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette but, with one eye on the Europa League final in Baku later this month, he may opt to hold one of his marquee forwards in reserve. Mesut Ozil could also make a rare appearance in a Premier League away game with Arsenal determined to impose themselves on Sean Dyche's side.

"We struggled a lot here against [Burnley]," Emery said. "I remember this match and I watched it two weeks ago when they drew with Chelsea. It was a very tough match against Chelsea and I’m expecting the same on Sunday in Burnley.

"We are going to play with the idea of imposing our gameplan, our capacity and our team against them. We know it’s going to be a difficult match with long balls, second actions and set-pieces, so we need to defend well in these situations."
