Bangkok police have arrested a South Korean accused of involvement with an accomplice who was apprehended smuggling “ice” hidden in his underpants into South Korea.

Kim Jin Deok was taken into custody at a condominium building in Bung Kum district on Monday, deputy immigration police chief Pol Maj Gen Panthana Nuchanart said on Tuesday.

He was wanted by South Koean authorities for alleged involvement in the smuggling of crystal methamphetamine (aka ice) into South Korea and was the subject of an Interpol red notice.

Pol Maj Gen Pathana alleged Mr Kim and accomplices had earlier arrived in Thailand to buy the drug. One accomplice had returned to South Korea, where he was arrested on arrival at the airport.

The man was found to have 1.31 kilogrammes of crystal meth hidden in his underpants, worth about 131 million won (about 2.9 million baht) in Korea.

Mr Kim hid out in Bangkok until he was arrested on Monday. His visa for Thailand had expired on May 30. He faces extradition to South Korea.

Airport officials found 1.3kg of "ice" hidden between two pairs of underpants worn by an accomplice of Kim Jin Deok when he flew into South Korea from Thailand. (Police photo)
