Korean publisher convicted of tax evasion

One of South Korea's leading newspaper chiefs has been convicted of tax evasion and embezzlement. Bang Sang-hoon, president of the country's largest-selling title, Chosun Ilbo, was given a four-year suspended prison sentence by the Supreme Court, which upheld a ruling made in a lower court in 2001. Bang was convicted of boosting his family's wealth through fraudulent stock trades. Under Korean media law it means that Bang will be banned from working as a publisher for the next four years. Chosun Ilbo has a daily circulation of 2.38m, and the company also publishes several other titles. (Via times.hankooki.com)
