One of K-pop’s most popular boy bands, Big Bang, are best known for their pop dance and hip-hop. But when the group’s main vocalist, Taeyang, decided to go solo, he went for a more R&B sound. Earlier this year, the 29-year-old released his third solo album, The White Night, and embarked on a world tour to promote it. September 30 saw him arrive in Thailand to perform Taeyang 2017 World Tour: White Night in Bangkok at Impact Challenger Hall1.
FUN TIME
Taeyang appeared onstage in a white outfit holding a white microphone and opened the concert with the title track, “White Night.” This was followed by the dance song “Ringa Linga,” in which he urged the audience to enjoy the moment. His fan club, VIP, got up from their seats to dance and sing along with him. It was the beginning of a hugely enjoyable night.
MUSICAL MUSE
During the course of the show, Taeyang sang 23 songs. These included some tracks from his first two solo albums and all eight tracks from White Night, inspired by his relationship with Min Hyo-rin. His love for her really came across in his impassioned versions of “Wake Me Up,” “Tonight” and “Darling.”
GREETINGS
After the song, “Only Look at Me,” the singer paused to talk to the audience. He told VIP that he’d missed them and was happy to see them again. He asked them what they thought of the new album. They responded enthusiastically, which made Taeyang very happy. He said he hoped that they could understand the messages in his music.
OUT OF THIS WORLD
The show was a spectacular one. Taeyang controlled the stage and his energy levels never dropped. Meanwhile, the LCD screens in the background showed breathtaking cinematography to add to the atmosphere. During “Tonight”, the stage was made to look like there was a solar eclipse. Everything went very dark, but for Taeyang in a red spotlight.
FAREWELL PARTY
After singing Big Bang’s “Last Dance,” Taeyang said that he and the band were thankful for their fans’ love and support. The singer was moved when the audience begged him not to leave. He played an encore of six songs including the Big Bang hits, “Bang Bang Bang” and “Fantastic Baby” before ending the show with his 2014 chart topper, “Eyes, Nose, Lips.” As he said goodbye, Taeyang told his fans that he’d never forget that night. Neither would the fans.
