Nakhon Ratchasima - Residents of Nakhon Ratchasima broke down in tears today as news spread of the passing of HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati, with many embracing portraits of the princess in grief and preparing to travel to Bangkok to pay their final respects.
The Bureau of the Royal Household announced that Princess Bajrakitiyabha, who had been receiving treatment at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital since Dec 15, 2022 after losing consciousness due to a heart-related condition, passed away peacefully on June 11 at 7.48pm. She was 47.
Her condition deteriorated on May 21 due to an abdominal infection caused by colon inflammation, leading to low blood pressure, an irregular heartbeat and abnormal blood clotting. Despite intensive care from medical teams, her condition continued to worsen until her passing.
His Majesty the King has ordered the Royal Household Bureau to conduct funeral rites with the highest royal honours, with the body lying in state at the Phiman Rattaya Hall within the Grand Palace.
In Nakhon Ratchasima's Hua Thale, residents gathered this morning following news of the princess's passing. Many brought photographs of her to embrace, with some moved to tears.
Supaporn, 72, said residents had closely followed news of the princess's illness and had held on to hope that she would recover and return to her royal duties.
"When I heard the news, I was shocked and deeply saddened. We had always hoped she would get better," she said. "I am deeply grateful for everything she has done for the country and its people."
Residents gathered to reminisce about the princess's contributions to the wellbeing of people across the country, including those in Nakhon Ratchasima, and expressed their intention to travel to Bangkok to pay their final respects, as a wave of grief continues to spread through the community.
