NAKHON RATCHASIMA: About 10 wild elephants from the Thap Lan National Park invaded more than 10 plantations in Khon Buri district over the past week, destroying a large amount of farm produce, said a village chief.
Samran Setkrathok, chief of Ban Thung Takhian village in tambon Khok Krachai, said the crops destroyed by the elephants include cucumber, banana and long bean.
Planters have to stay alert around the clock to watch for the wild elephants and shoo them away.
He said concerned government agencies have mobilised volunteers from villages in the area to keep a lookout for the wild elephants and keep them off the farmers' land before they cause more damage.
