Kookaburras sweep Black Sticks again

The Kookaburras have completed a men's hockey series sweep over NZ with a 2-0 win in Perth (AAP)

The world No.1 Kookaburras have tuned up for the Tokyo Olympics by posting another series clean sweep against New Zealand in Perth.

Nathan Ephraums' 11th-minute strike got the Kookaburras off the mark in Sunday's match at an empty Perth Hockey Stadium, and Blake Govers secured the 2-0 win with a goal in the 40th minute.

The result, which followed Saturday's 7-3 win, gave the Kookaburras a 2-0 series sweep.

It followed their 4-0 whitewash of the Black Sticks in New Zealand last month.

No spectators were allowed to attend Sunday's match due to Perth's COVID-19 scare, with the restrictions announced shortly before the game started.

Ephraums opened the scoring from close range after being superbly picked out by Tom Wickham, who drove past two defenders.

New Zealand thought they had an equaliser in the 37th minute when Sam Lane glanced the ball in, but the video review adjudged it came off the back of his stick.

Minutes later the Kookaburras were two goals to the good when Flynn Ogilvie produced a sublime run into the circle.

Near the base line, the midfielder's ball across was partly stopped by the NZ goalkeeper, who saved again from Tim Brand on the rebound.

But he couldn't stop Govers from scoring from less than a metre out.

The Kookaburras will head to Darwin for a pre-Olympic training camp before departing for Tokyo on July 19.
