Konsantinos Mavropanos avoids injury disaster as Jordi Osei-Tutu struggles in Bundesliga action

German football has made a successful return to action and this weekend saw Konstantinos Mavropanos and Jordi Osei-Tutu ready to represent Arsenal in 2. Bundesliga.

Interestingly, the pair came up against each other as Nuremberg hosted Vfl Bochum.

It's been a contrasting return to action for the Arsenal loanees so far. Osei-Tutu helped Vfl Bochum to a 3-0 win, scoring their second goal against Heidenheim in the first week back, but struggled against Karlsruher SC a week later.

Meanwhile, Mavropanos has endured some shaky moments - in particular an error that allowed St. Pauli to come away with a 1-0 win last month.

But what happened when it was Arsenal vs Arsenal in the second tier of German football?

Here, football.london round-up how the pair fared when they were on opposing sides at the weekend.

Konstantinos Mavropanos

Nuremberg were able to keep a clean sheet against Bochum, unfortunately for Mavropanos he was only able to contribute 50% to the shut out as he was substituted at half-time.

It has since been confirmed that the defender suffered a muscle injury.

Although, Nuremberg boss Jan Keller has revealed the decision to withdraw the Arsenal loanee was a precaution as he feared losing the youngster for the rest of the season.

"The muscle has contracted," he told reporters. "The risk was too great that we would miss it for the rest of the season,"

The injury setback was a shame as Mavropanos had impressed in the first-half, making three tackles, three interceptions, two clearances and winning an aerial duel.

But on the bright side it would appear he's avoided an injury disaster.

Jordi Osei-Tutu

By the same token, Osei-Tutu can be delighted to have helped Bochum record a clean sheet away from home.

He lasted 32 minutes longer than his Arsenal teammate before being substituted in the second half, but might have been fortunate to have done so as he struggled to have any impact.

Operating in a right-wing back role, Osei-Tutu's first touch let him down on several occasions and didn't create any chances for the Bochum strikers.

Overall, Osei-Tutu has benefited from being played further upfield after starting out as a right-back in the first half of the season.

But the goalless draw against Nuremberg is one he will want to forget - although he will learn from the experience and his performances this season could change his first-team plans at Arsenal.

The result was better for Bochum as they sit ninth in the table, while Mavrapanos' side are looking nervously over their shoulders at the prospect of relegation.
