Konrad Hurrell thanks Leeds Rhinos fans in parting message

Konrad Hurrell has sent a message to the Leeds Rhinos fans after playing his final game for the club.

Hurrell came off the bench in the loss to St Helens on Friday night as the Rhinos saw their hopes of a first Grand Final appearance since 2017 ended.

The result brought the centre’s three-year stint at Headingley to a close after turning down a new contract in favour of a move elsewhere.

Hurrell will stay in the Super League with St Helens his expected destination but he insists his time with in West Yorkshire has been special.

The Tonga international joined the Rhinos ahead of the 2019 Super League season and he was part of the side that beat Salford Red Devils in the Challenge Cup final last year and after playing his final game for Leeds on Friday, he thanked the club’s supporters in a parting message.

“I’ll say this, I’ve never experienced something like that, coming in and the fans singing,” Hurrell told the club website. “Our first year wasn’t too good but they still turned up and they were still singing loud and proud. That’s how I know the club meant the world to them.

“Some people don’t have much money to turn up to the game but still turn up week in, week out.

“My first trophy I won here with Leeds, the Challenge Cup, it was amazing even though the fans weren’t there, but we felt like they were. We needed to give something back to the fans and we got the Challenge Cup last year.

“It’s been amazing and I can’t say a bad thing about being here, I’ve loved it.

“I wish we could have won more but a massive thank you to all the fans for sticking by me, some games weren’t my best games but they still backed me and now my journey comes to an end.

“I’m truly going to miss them and hopefully they’re going to be nice to me next year wherever I go.”
