The government is accelerating preparations to administer booster shots to medical workers who treat COVID-19 patients, according to administrative and regulatory reform minister Taro Kono, who is in charge of vaccine distribution.
"Preparations are underway to have booster shots made available for medical workers when they become necessary," Kono said at an out-of-session meeting of the House of Councillors' Cabinet Committee on Thursday.

The same day, Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato said at a press conference that the government would make a final decision regarding booster shots after gathering information mainly on how long the vaccine is effective and whether the same type of vaccine would be administered.
