Kolo Toure compares himself to brother Yaya Toure in bold Ballon d'Or claim

Kolo Toure has claimed his brother Yaya Toure could have won the Ballon d'Or if he wasn't so lazy.

The pair both had successful playing careers, most of which were played in the Premier League.

Yaya joined Man City from Barcelona in 2010, joining Kolo at the Etihad eight years after his older brother had arrived in England.

By that time Kolo was already a Premier League champion with Arsenal, and both went on to win the same honour with City two years later.

And despite achieving similar levels of success on British shores, Kolo - who now coaches at Leicester - believes his brother just edged him.

"Yaya was a better player than me and I think he did better than me here," Kolo told the Mail.

"I am more competitive than him. He is more talented. I was a better runner and I work hard. If Yaya had my work [ethic], with his talent he would have won the Ballon D’Or."

Kolo was the trailblazer for Ivorian players, becoming the first player from his country to play in the Premier League.

After a decent career in Europe, Yaya soon established himself as one of Man City's all-time greats, helping the club to two more league titles after Kolo had moved on.

But Yaya was not afforded the heroes send-off he perhaps deserved after eight years with City, as his time at the club ended with a bitter falling out with boss Pep Guardiola.

"He’s [Yaya's} a lovely man," Kolo added. "He’s a lovely, lovely guy and sometimes there is a misunderstanding of his communication, because English is not our first language.

"Sometimes you can say things that you’re not meaning, really. But because you’re on it, you just keep talking, and that can turn against you. But deep inside he’s a lovely guy and I know he loves City."
