Kolkata: Students tour museum, get a peek into history

KOLKATA: Over 70 students from disadvantaged backgrounds visited the Indian Museum (IM) as a part of an inclusive programme on Saturday. The students of St Stephen’s School left the museum with an unforgettable experience and sharper views on history, art, artefacts and knowledge.

“The objective of this museum tour was to impart a more engaging experience of the museum with people of all walks of life, particularly, with students, the future citizens of the country. We want to make museum tours a far more robust and vibrant. Students drew sketches and took part in a quiz contest after the tour,” said Sayan Bhattacharya, education officer, IM.

Since it was Bak Gangadhar Tilak’s birth anniversary, the quiz contest was held around his role in India's freedom, after students visited the March to Freedom, a special exhibition to commemorate the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

IM regularly organises such trips for students where they are allowed free entry to the museum. It also organises small workshops on sketching, origami and other arts forms.
