Kolkata school organises first soccer meet after pandemic

KOLKATA: Asian International School held its first post pandemic sports event on July 22 and 23 during school hours on the sprawling ground of the school. Pradip Choudhury, who formed the central defensive pair with Subroto Bhattacharya and the former Indian National Team manager for 2011 AFC Asian Cup and Abiodun Martins, former footballer and coach of Dream Football Academy, were the guests present on the occasion. Other dignitaries included Alok Sharma, director, AIS, Vijaylakshmi Kumar, principal, AIS and Simran Sanghera, headmistress, AIS.

The event kicked off traditionally with a 'penalty shootout' shot aiming at the goal post by Milan Hazra, sports faculty of the school. The Fit India school had invited 24 schools across Kolkata and Howrah to be a part of this tournament. The students mesmerized the audience with their energetic performances.

The AIS students played the finals against Guru Nanak Public School on July 23, where the match ended in a tie with each team scoring a solitary goal. There was a tie breaker match which ended in a draw. The Coin Toss Procedure was applied and AIS was declared the champion of AIS Football Cup 2022. The tournament ended with the prize distribution ceremony.
