KOLKATA: A gang of robbers planning to strike during the Puja were caught from two hotels off Belgharia Expressway on Saturday. Seven people were arrested with four firearms, 25 rounds of cartridges, Rs 32,000 cash and a gold chain.
Police said six of them had come to the city from Bihar to target pandal-hoppers. A resident of Dum Dum’s Mathkal Purbapara, coordinated with them as a local linkman.
“A motorcyclist was robbed of his gold chain and cash at gunpoint by the gang on Friday. Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Belgharia police station raided the two hotels near Dum Dum and rounded them up,” said Ajay Thakur, joint CP, Barrackpore commissionerate.
They were remanded in police custody for five days.
