Kolkata: NGO help for New Town green drive

KOLKATA: A NGO has come forward to distribute cloth bags at subsidized rates in New Town markets.

NKDA plans to intensify its drive to enforce the ban on single-use plastic, and NKDA chairman Debashis Sen said, "We are to formally start the initiative of distributing cloth bags with the help of an NGO.

Sourav Mukherjee, founder president of Kolkata Society for Cultural heritage (KSCH), an NGO, said they have been planning to set up counters in markets to sell bio-degradable plastic and cloth bags.

The price of a biodegradable plastic bag ranges from Re 1.5-Rs 3, and cloth bags are available for about Rs 18-Rs 20, officials said.
