Kolkata Municipal Corporation to set up stns to lift storm water

KOLKATA: Kolkata Municipal Corporation has formed a team with officials from irrigation department, Kolkata Environment and Infrastructure Improvement (KEIIP) and the civic body’s drainage department that will work in collaboration to give citizens relief from waterlogging.

KMC will set up some drainage lifting stations along the Hooghly to lift storm water out of large parts of BBD Bag and central Kolkata while the lock-gates along the river will be shut during high tide. KMC drainage department will also link city’s major drainage pumping stations with the headquarters so that senior officials get to know storm water load on a particular drainage pumping station after a spell of heavy rain.

The team will find out malfunctioning of pumps in drainage pumping stations, blockage in underground sewer lines and need to clean highly silted canals.
