KOLKATA: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) health department is set to conduct anti-dengue and anti-malaria drives in select places across 144 wards where the diseases are on the rise after a lull in 2020.
According to Atin Ghosh, the deputy mayor who oversees the KMC health department, the civic body has identified 16 wards where cases of dengue were rising and 69 wards where the malaria threat was looming.
Some of the areas where the dengue cases are climbing up include Cossipore-Belgachhia, Taltala, Ripon Street, Picnic Garden, Topsia-Tiljala, Ballygunge, part of Rashbehari Avenue, Bhowanipore, Tollygunge, Golf Green, Jodhpur Park, and Garia. The cases of malaria have become a worrying factor for the civic body in areas like Hatibagan, Beadon Street, Chitpore, Burrabazar, Jorasanko, Jorabagan, Amherst Street, College Street, Chittaranjan Avenue, SN Banerjee Road, Bhowanipore, Chetla, Kalighat, Lake Gardens, Jodhpur Park, Tollygunge, and Behala ,among others.
“We have planned a comprehensive drive in the days to come. A crack team is being readied for such a purpose,” said Ghosh on Thursday.
