KOLKATA: A day after Metro Railway resumed operations on Friday after a 61-day break, it ran104 staff special trains on the North-South line on Saturday, allowing essential workers from various sectors and JEE examinees to commute by the facility.
“It’s just as well the staff specials are here on Saturdays or I would have had to take a cab, which have become mighty expensive these days,” said Ayan Basu, an executive at a city hotel.
Social distancing, which went for a toss on Friday, was not a problem on Saturday. On Friday, Metro recorded1,28,957 footfall, 100 times higher than that on September 14, 2020, when Metro resumed runs.
