KOLKATA: A joint team of CID and the state directorate of economic offences raided a condominium in Jaipur and arrested the daughter and wife of a Ballygunge-based businessman, Shantilal Surana. They have been arrested on charges of misappropriating funds running into several crores. The mother-daughter duo was named in 13 separate FIRs, said DEO sources.
Shantilal, who was arrested last April, shot to prominence as a financial broker and he has multiple properties, including a couple of hotels, in south Kolkata. The allegation against him is that he had duped many senior citizens in the past.
The CID sources said the accused had been moving in and around Delhi. Last week, the sleuths finally received a tip-off that she would be travelling to Jaipur. A team followed her in a car even as others took a flight to Jaipur.
The two were brought to Kolkata on transit remand and produced in Bicchar Bhawan. They were remanded in police custody for seven days.
