KOLKATA: Scottish Church College has waived off fees of nine students who have lost either one or both parents to Covid-19 for all the upcoming semesters, becoming the first college in the city to take such a step.
The applications of all the nine students was accepted and they will not require to pay any fees from the time they made the application.
The students will get financial relief of almost anything between Rs 17,000 and Rs 38,000 per semester depending on subjects they are studying. One student is pursuing post-graduation while the rest are in various semesters of UG courses.
“Waiving fees for the upcoming semester is a small gesture by the college to provide some financial relief to these students,” said Madhumanjari Mandal, principal.
Students of Jadavpur University, Presidency University and Calcutta University have been demanding fees waiver. Many colleges have decided not to raise the fees this year, but no decision has been taken on waiving semester fees. CU has however waived fees of its UG and PG students.
