KOLKATA: The main accused in the Behala Senpally double murder case — Sanjay Kumar Das (44) alias Bappa — reportedly died by suicide inside ward 6 of Presidency Correctional Home last Friday.
Police sources said that though no suicide note was recovered, he had been remorseful. After the detective department filed the chargesheet against him and his brother, Sandip (32), in December last year, Sanjay had become more restless. “The undertrial was found hanging from the toilet’s window around 3.50am by another undertrial. He was declared dead at the hospital,” said an officer.
The two brothers had allegedly murdered their cousin Susmita Mondal (43) and her son Tamojit (13) at their residence in Behala Senpally on September 6. The accused had decamped with Sushmita’s gold and deposited it in a non-banking financial firm office to take a loan of Rs 46,500.
