Kolkata: Devotees celebrate Ram Navami with Jeen Mataji's puja at Behala Chandi temple

KOLKATA: Ram Navami was celebrated across the country on Sunday and in some places, rallies were also held. In Kolkata's Behala Chandi temple, the festival was celebrated with huge fervour along with the puja of Jeen Mataji.

The temple of Jeen Mataji was recently inaugurated inside the Chandi temple complex.

Jeen Mata is considered to be an incarnation of Maa Durga and so on Ram Navami she is worshipped, said Tarak Singh of Chandi temple committee and member, mayor-in-council of Kolkata Municipal Corporation.

He said that the Jeen Mataji is considered to be the Goddess of power and her ancient temple is located in Sikar in Rajasthan and according to mythology, the temple was built by Pandavas while they were returning from exile.

So for the Marwari community, this temple of Jeen Mataji was built recently in the Chandi temple complex.

Singh said that on Saturday and Sunday there were thousands of devotees who attended the puja at temple for the Annapurna puja and Ram Navami. Now the temple is gearing up for the puja on Poila Baisakh and then for puja of Ma Chandi.

A new temple of Vaishno devi is also coming up in the Chandi temple complex, Singh added.
