KOLKATA: In all the 65 Catholic churches in the city under the Archdiocese of Kolkata, a part of the Sunday service will see priests paying homage to Father Stan Swamy and parishioners joining in for prayers.
Catholic churches have re-opened with restrictions and this is the first Sunday service since the death of Father Stan, so parish priests and the community decided to dedicate the day for the priest who stood for tribal rights and has been hailed as “martyr” by the Catholic world.
Sunday service will be attended by 50 parishioners physically and the rest will join online. Starting with prayers at the Archbishop House, priests of many churches have readied sermons to remember Father Stan. Jesuit priests will have special prayers at St Xavier’s chapel on Park Street campus.
